Wanted: Everyday heroes. You don't need to be Bear Grylls to volunteer.
We’ve already got one Chief Scout, and he’s brilliant. What we need now are smilers, inspirers, activity planners, organisers and people who like the sun and the rain. All-round team players to support our fantastic young people.
The good news is you shape what you do and decide how much time you give. Scouts happens when a lot of us give a little (and no, you don’t have to be a Scout or outdoors expert to volunteer).
Scouts is needed now more than ever. The pandemic has hit our young people hard – with two-thirds saying it’s impacted on their mental health. Having positive role models to guide the way, and give that extra bit of encouragement is so important in times like these. We help young people step up, speak up and find their place in the world. We help them gain skills for life.
Whether you join us to directly support young people, or behind the scenes, we’ll match you with a role that suits the skills you have to share and those you’d like to gain.
Given how the number of young people in our Group has grown during the pandemic, we are looking for help with Beavers, Scouts and Explorers as well as to run our enlarged Group. Below is where you could help us most.
Excitement, adventure and friends are the big things for Cubs.
Our programme offers a wide variety of activities from games and indoor activities, to day hikes, camps and outdoor skills like using maps and pitching tents.
Join in to help our Cub Pack (with members aged 8 to 10.5 years old) participate in lots of activities and challenges.
You’ll work with our experienced Cubs leader, Akela, and be part of our Cubs Leadership Team. You’ll help plan, deliver and administer the Cub Pack’s activity programme and occasionally deputise for Akela.
Full and formal training will be provided so no previous experience is needed.
Do you like order and structure? Does the sight of a well-organised storage facility give you pleasure? If so, the quartermaster role is for you!
As quartermaster, you will be responsible for keeping an inventory of our small storage facility at Access Storage. You will help support the Troop at events by stating what equipment is available and helping the section heads access the equipment, keeping track of what is taken and more vitally what needs returning.
Alongside this, you will notify the Troop if any equipment needs replacing or mending.

Join in to help Beavers (our youngest members from 6 to 8 years old) try new things, make new friends and begin their Scouting adventure. You’ll join our experienced Beaver Leader and be part of our Beaver Leader Team. You’ll help plan, deliver and administer the Beaver’s activity programme. Occasionally, you may deputise for the Beaver Leader. We provide training for this role.
We are different to typical Scouts. Our Scout Group is adventure focused. Rather than meeting in a hall, we are outdoors based with almost all our activities outside. We camp and hammock all year round, cook over fires, learn bushcraft skills, hike and lots more. We meet on weekends every 3 – 4 weeks. Scouts are 10 ½ to 14 years old. You’ll be part of our Scouts Leader Team sharing the planning, delivery and running of events and activities. Full training is provided.
Help our Explorers try more, see more and do more. You’ll work closely with the Explorer Scout Leader to plan and deliver a balanced outdoor programme for the Explorer Unit. Thorough training is provided. There’s more on this role here.
You’ll help our Explorer Leaders focus their time on being outdoors delivering activities with the Explorers. You’ll provide essential support to maintain activity, badge and Award records. You’ll be organised but don’t need to enjoy hiking, camping or the rain. There’s more on this role here.
Head to the Contact us form and let us know you’re interested in Becoming an Adult Volunteer or in any of the roles above. We’ll come straight back to you.
